So we picked up Belle in Genoa after our awesome swimming experience in Spotorno ( see previous post ) and from Genoa we drove straight to Montecerboli, inland and then south from Livorno, quite little town on a rocky outcrop. Not much open on a Sunday night, and we found only one cafe and one pizza bar, so we opted to have a drink at this cafe, Circolo Arci Montecerboli .
At first we sat on our own little table, and once the owner Silvana found out we were from Australia, not only did she start an Australian playlist going for us but offered to organise dinner as well and set up a table for us and her family.so we truly had a wonderful eveningshe got her friend to go and get some yummy pizzas from up the road somewhereno mossie coil, no problem, Silvana showed us how to do it Italian style ( ground coffee, and does not have those chemical smells )walking back to our AirBnB for the night, no cars same view in the morning walk up to the look out as I joked when we arrived last night that we are in Springfield ( Simpson reference ) but turns out this is a Green power station, tapping into the geothermal activityand you can see the pipes running through the hillside that is capping the steam can see some on this hill therewonder what the old fuck, way back, would have thought of all this geothermal activity wisdom walking down the street pricklies outside the church stone village textures our lodging for the night ( was pretty awesome btw ) Geothermal tubes, we are now heading to Saturnia with a little detour to see the Geothermal activity at Lagoni hard to see, but there is a little steam coming out and a very strong scent of sulphur in the air, the smell reminded me of our trip to Whakaari Island ( White Island ) in N.Z. 5 years agowalk back to the car so no, not nuclear 🙂 but Geothermal overlooking Lagoni village and we are heading to the other side of that mountain range ( and some ) to go to Saturnia
