Visit to the Felix Massana Cava Cellar

2014/08/24 | Travel

Our plan was to visit Jacqui’s favourite Cava, Segura Viudas, but unlike Australia, the concept of open cellar door does not exist in Spain. You need to book and then it is more of a door as opposed to an actual tastingPHC_9555SonnyphotosSo our contact in Barcelona hooked us up last minute with a smaller family run winery PHC_9557Sonnyphotosand what a treat, much better PHC_9559Sonnyphotoswe got to learn a lot  PHC_9561Sonnyphotosand it tasted bloody good as well,  PHC_9563Sonnyphotosso we bought a magnum, as we just found out that the quality is always that little better in a magnum bottle  PHC_9564SonnyphotosWhen they dug out their cellar, they found a whole load of fossils, bonus PHC_9567Sonnyphotoslove the look of this, some might say it looks disgusting, but on the inside, hmmm, yum PHC_9569Sonnyphotoswe got the full tour, they recently got a few more “automated” machine to replace some of the work that was done by hand, a lot of work goes into this Screen Shot 2014-08-23 at 10.26.21 pmThanks Felix Massana, we’re glad Sigura was closed and got to discover your winery instead, now to get an Australian Importer to start buying your Cava 🙂

On our way to Barcelona, we just had to go through the Penedes region ( The Hunter Valley of Cava near Barcelona )
