Organizers Settle Dispute Over Fashion Week Dates

By ERIC WILSON

Just as the men’s runway collections came to a close in Milan on Tuesday, organizers of the shows in New York and London announced that they have settled, for now, a dispute over the dates of the women’s runway shows planned this September. The New York and London collections will not overlap with those of Milan, as had been risked by a standoff between the cities over when the season should begin.

New York designers had wanted to start showing their collections the week after Labor Day, giving them some reprieve for the first time in many years. But the Milanese, who show between London and Paris, refused to go along by pushing their dates back as well.

On Tuesday morning, the New York and London designers announced they would back down, but said in a statement that they “remain committed to finding a long-term solution that would see a confirmed fashion season where brands and designer businesses in all four fashion capitals (New York, London, Milan and Paris) can plan for the long term, and when exceptional circumstances arise there is a dialogue and empathy to find a solution that works for all.”

The New York collections will now run Sept. 6 to Sept. 13 and the London shows will take place Sept. 14 to Sept. 18. The Milan shows begin Sept. 19.

Fashion week in New York was originally scheduled to start on the 13th of September
