Got up this morning with the question in my head of what would be the oldest known clothing brand slash label, I had a feeling it would be Levi's Strauss, but they are pipped by a 86 years by a brand called Smedley, John Smedley, producing fine gauge knitwear Tell you the truth, I never heard of this brand, they established themselves in 1784 . The famous Levis it turns out was invented and patented by a Jacob Davis in Reno back in 1870 ,his pants were so popular that he could not keep up the demand, and realized he needed to get a bigger company to do the production for him to keep up the demand, so 2 years later he contacted the people that made the fabric denim to see about starting up a partnership, that company that made the fabric was called Levi Strauss, in 1873 ( see illustration above ) they were up and running with their unique use of rivets in their clothes.
